Ellen Alexander

Ellen Alexander-- began sculpting as a means of "trying to express my idea of the interconnectedness of all beings in different times and places". Her original work was in metal and stone but, in her words, "Finally, I ‘came home’ to the softer, warmer qualities of wood. I prefer to use native New Mexico woods, such as juniper, walnut and mesquite, and fruitwoods, and I work with a variety of hand and power tools.

Her pieces range from buddhas, santos, and animals to small furniture and other functional items like spoons and bowls. Mostly Ellen prefers to just oil the wood to bring out the beauty of the grain.

"I hope you enjoy looking at my work," she says, "because that’s the main reason I do it!"
