Joe Ortega

Joe Ortega-- Carving is something that just came naturally to Joe. As the youngest child of Ben and Isabel Ortega, he spent his lifetime in the proximity of many woodcarvers. His father was the catalyst for the famous "Ortega style". His brothers are well known santeros who also carve animals and angels. At the age of twenty, Joe began to carve his own wooden animals. He has produced coyotes, rabbits, roosters, chickens, dogs, eagles, jackalopes and any other animal upon request. The animals are one-of-kind and have a textured finish which is his trademark.

You can find more of Joe’s work in the Hispanic Folkart Section.
